One-Coil Long-Stroke Permanent Magnetic Actuator Design Applied to Load Breaker Switch for Railway

This paper proposes a design for one-coil long-stroke permanent magnet actuator (PMA) applied to load breaker switch with novel mechanism applicable railways. As new railway overhead lines has double-insulation structure of the vacuum interrupter (VI) and disconnect (DS) higher insulation, control requires very long stroke. While traditional PMA implements stroke 10 30 mm, 120 mm. To do so, we used finite element method (FEM) designed PMA. Then, values from FEM analysis were compared measured holding force data, simplified prototype test-jig was confirm actuator’s operating characteristics. In addition, electromagnetic force, plunger rotation, part weight ratio, which affect performance, adapted in its design. By doing confirmed performance required VI average opening speed 1.4 m/s an closing 0.9 at 1/2 full
